Chris Hornsby ready to unveil new EP ‘Human, Too Human’
Multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter set for 22nd May, 5 track release.
A genuinely talented multi-instrumentalist who is turning heads online with recent releases, Chris Hornsby is now ramping up to his biggest release yet, folk-roots based EP ‘Human, Too Human’.
The EP is exclusively performed, recorded, arranged and produced by Chris himself, a specialist in acoustic songwriting who has added a few new strings to his bow in the making of the EP. Based around acoustic songs he has performed at gigs over the last year, the EP uses those acoustic arrangements as foundations before building in layers and arrangements to flesh them out.
At final count, Chris performs an impressive 15 instruments over the 5 tracks, all recorded organically, with as little technical interference as possible. The songs, all based on the place and experiences of Chris Hornsby’s upbringing, are instantly relatable tales unfurled through the genre of folk. The roots and taste of the EP are almost tangible – in Chris’ words, ‘they have the smell of leaves and mud about them’.
Often compared to the likes of Neil Young, Uncle Tupelo, John Martyn, Lloyd Cole, Pavement and more, the styles and tropes of the EP are impressively wide ranging for just five tracks. The quality of the songs speak for themselves, and it comes as little surprise to learn that Hornsby has, in the past, been handpicked to support the likes of Bonnie Dobson and Ian Prowse & Amsterdam.
And with another support slot sharing the stage with the Pierce Brothers on the way, Chris Hornsby’s profile will continue to increase in size.
Truly passionate about his craft and music in general, Chris’ background is exhaustive. Having previously earned a living as a Saxophone teacher, he’s also been a drummer, bassist, guitarist and flautist at different times in different bands.
His drive to expand his own musical knowledge has led him to listen to, analyse and make notes on over 1000 albums in order to learn as much as he can – steadfastly refusing to turn to the internet and relying instead on an ever expanding CD collection.
It’s this dedication, as well as his talent, that sets Chris Hornsby apart from the raft of singer songwriters already out there. And if you want to get under his skin even further, keep an eye on his websites and social media – he will soon be hosting a live online listen along to preview the new EP tracks in May.
